RadEnhance: clearer dental X-rays, side by side

RadEnhance reduces noise and improves contrast in intraoral periapical (IOPA) radiographs, and shows the enhanced image right next to the original so you can compare them at a glance. It was built by a practising dentist for everyday clinical work, and is currently in beta.

RadEnhance enhances images only. It does not diagnose, and clinical decisions remain with the treating professional. Read the full disclaimer.

Why we built it

Many everyday IOPA images are usable but not ideal: a little noisy, a little flat, or slightly under- or over-exposed. Retaking a radiograph means more exposure for the patient and more chair time. Dr. Lavkesh Bansal, who has run a dental practice since 2000, wanted a quick way to see an existing image more clearly, while always keeping the original in view. RadEnhance does exactly that and nothing more: it never replaces the original, it sits beside it.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Upload an IOPA X-ray. JPG, PNG and similar image formats work. You can try one image without signing up. Embedded metadata is removed before anything is stored.
  2. Compare. The original and the enhanced image appear side by side, so you can check what changed in each area.
  3. Download. Save both images as one labelled picture with a short disclaimer beneath, ready to keep in records or to show the patient.

Getting the best result: tips for the input image

Enhancement works with the information the image already has. A better starting image gives a better result.

What enhancement can and cannot do

It can

Reduce graininess, make subtle differences in density easier to see, and make a slightly flat image easier to read on screen.

It cannot

Recover detail that was never captured. Areas that are completely burnt out (overexposed) or blank (underexposed), cone cuts and movement blur stay as they are.

Always

Read the enhanced image together with the original and the clinical findings. Any processing can change how an edge or density looks, which is why the original is always shown beside it.

Frequently asked questions

Does RadEnhance diagnose anything?

No. It only changes how the image looks, to make it easier to view. It does not detect, mark or label any condition. Diagnosis and treatment decisions remain with the treating dentist.

Which X-rays does it work with?

It is designed for intraoral periapical (IOPA) radiographs, from digital sensors or from scanned or photographed film. Other views, such as bitewings, OPGs or CBCT slices, are not what it was built and tested for.

Can I try it without creating an account?

Yes. You can try one X-ray free with no sign-up. With a free account, you get 1 image a day.

Is patient information safe?

Embedded metadata is stripped before storage, images are encrypted when stored, only you can view them, and they are deleted automatically on a schedule. As good practice, crop out names and other identifiers visible in the image before you upload.

Are my X-rays used to train AI?

No. We do not use your images to train AI models, and we do not sell your data.

Can I show the enhanced image to my patient?

Yes. The download combines the original and enhanced images in one labelled picture with a short disclaimer, which makes it easy to explain a finding chair-side or to keep in the record.

Should I keep the original image in my records?

Yes. Always keep the original radiograph from your sensor or film as the primary record. The enhanced image is a viewing aid alongside it, not a replacement.

Why does my result look only slightly different?

If the original was already well exposed and clean, there is little to improve, which is a good sign. The biggest visible change usually comes with noisy or low-contrast images.

Does it work on a phone in the clinic?

Yes. RadEnhance runs in a browser on a phone, tablet or computer, so you can use it chair-side without installing anything.

How do I give feedback or report a problem?

We welcome feedback from dentists during the beta. Write through the RadEnhance contact page or to dzealai@gmail.com.

RadEnhance has its own terms, privacy policy and disclaimer.
